Tag Preparation
Preparation of Tags: There is a $5 tag fine for consignors that do not follow these guidelines. The most important thing about tags is consistency. There are many acceptable ways to make tags. However, once a style is chosen, stick with it. Each tag should be of the same heavy weight paper, size, color, and design. Please check out pictures of great tags! Notice their eye catching features and how they look different from other consignors' tags (which makes it easy for sorting). Hopefully, this will give you ideas for your tags. We have provided some sample tags for your use. Print them out directly onto card stock. Use legible handwriting or print them off on a computer. If there is a mistake on a tag, replace it. If tags contain cross-outs, a $5 tag fine will be assessed.
Paper: Tags should be made from regular card stock or index cards. Full sheets of card stock can be used to print out tags from the computer, or copied at any copy center. Under no circumstances should regular weight paper be used. Tags that are made of normal paper rip easily and get lost. If tags are made from normal paper, a $5 tag fine will be assessed. Size: If using index cards, cut one 3 x 5 index card in half. A full sheet of card stock paper can fit eight to twelve tags. It is important for the sorting process that all tags are the same size. If more room is needed to "advertise" an item, just use a blank tag (no price, no consignor number) for those comments. Color and Design: Use any color index cards or card stock. In fact is it best if the cards are unique in some way. Do this by using a colorful pen to write the information, use a special (but clear!) font if printing on the computer, highlight the edges with a marker, or add a stamp. Be creative! Whatever you do, use the same color and design on each tag. Please do not use a dark color tag (dark red, dark blue, etc). Dark tags make it hard for the cashiers to read the writing and indicate (where applicable) that the item was sold at half price. If a dark color tag is used, a $5 tag fine will be assessed. Note: Hole punches are not needed if you are using a tagging gun. Hole punch: Tags for items of clothing should have one and only one hole-punch in the upper left hand corner, about ¼ inch from the edge. The tag is attached to the clothing using a safety pin through this hole. You must use a standard size hole punch. This has a two-fold purpose. First, it is easier to put the tag on the clothes. The safety pins go through the hole much easier than they go through the card. Secondly, it is much easier and faster for those pulling off the tags. If clothing tags do not have a standard size hole punch, a $5 tag fine will be assessed. Consignor Number: Write consignor number on the top center of all tags. Please make sure that it appears on the top of every tag. All tags without a consignor number will be considered a donation to Catholic Consignments. Description and size: In the middle of the tag, write a description of the item. Include the designer, color, or decoration. It is important that the size is written so that clothes can be displayed on the correct rack. If the tag falls off the item, the better the description, the easier it is to match it up with the item. Price: The general rule of thumb is to price items 1/3rd of retail. If the item is brand new or in high demand (such as large, play equipment), price it slightly higher. If the item has been worn, price it slightly lower than 1/3rd of retail. The price should be written on the bottom of the tag. Please do not try to sell clothing that is stained, torn, or has a broken zipper. Please do not try to sell it if you would not buy it yourself (including items grossly out of date). Items that are damaged will be taken off the racks. Price your items as a buyer. Ask yourself the question, "What would I pay for this?" Try to remove sentimental value from your pricing. Although the item might be your daughter's first Easter dress, if you really want to sell it, you need to price for what a buyer would want to pay. Large variations in pricing for certain items are to be expected. Please keep the pricing reasonable for a consignment sale. Do not expect to get nearly new value. Any item over $1.00 must be priced in $0.50 increments ($1.50, $2.00, $2.50, etc). We no longer accept any item priced under $1.00. If items priced under $1 are brought to the sale a $5 tag fine will be assessed. Half-Price Code: An “X” in the top right hand corner indicates that an item cannot be sold at half-price during the half-price sale. If that area is left blank, then the item will be sold at half-price during the half-price sale. If an item should not be sold at half-price, mark an "X" (preferable red) in the upper right hand corner of your tag. Donation Code: At the end of the sale, if items are not sold, they can be donated to charity. If unsold items should be donated, instead of picked-up, simply place a "D" in the lower right hand corner of the tag. Items with a "D" will be cleared from the floor first. There will be no possibility to find donated items once they are taken off the racks. Items without a "D" will be consolidated for consignor pick-up. |
